I live in a small town in New Hampshire. Something I didn't realize until recently is the enormous drug problem we have in the area. Apparently, there is a huge herion problem here. I wonder if the drug problem is in relation to the amount of activities there are available. I have to say, I find it so frightening, as a mother, that the problem is so large. I worry about how extensive it is and if it has infested our schools.
I recently read about a drug rehab program that I found fascinating. They do not consder themselves to be physciatric or medical. Instead they focus on social eduction. As a matter of fact, they do not refer to their clients as patients, but refer to them as students. Rather than focusing their attention on drugs and medications to solve issues that are causing the drug and alcohol problem, they are approaching the problem through nutrition and nutrition supplements.
Their succes rate is 80%, which is 4 times higher than the industry average. If they are this successful, I find myself wondering why more rehab programs aren't using this style of treatment. It seems to be a no-brainer to me.
