Inner Blonde Strikes Again!

My inner blonde, who reared her airy head upon the beginning of this pregnancy, has finally reached her peak performance; she has finally cost me money! $20.33 to be exact!

Timmy’s still in potty training mode, so I drag a bag of extra clothes and underwear with me to daycare every day. Because the hubs I am too cheap to buy enough changes of clothes to keep some at daycare on a full-time basis, I carry this bag back and forth everyday. I keep the bag next to my purse in the mud room. It was -4 degrees this morning when I left, and the high is expected to be 9 degrees. Given the extreme cold, I knew I needed to pack an extra pair of fleece lined pants for him today. If he had an accident, I wanted to make sure he could change into something equally as warm. In addition to the cozy warm pants that I consciously put in his bag this morning, I put his beloved blanky in the bag too. I’m sure by now, you have guessed where this is going.

I left the house, purse and lunch bag in tow. I peacefully made the 30 minute drive to daycare, pulled into the lot, turned the car off, then “oh CRAP” I forget his daycare bag. How could I possibly have forgotten his bag; it’s in the same darn place every morning???? I had to break the news to him that he wasn’t going to have blanky that day because I forgot his bag. He whimpered for a bit, but took it better than I thought he would (I suspect that daycare will bear the brunt of his whimpering at nap time). I then had to break it to daycare that I forgot the bag of spare clothes and that I would be back after a trip to Wal-Mart. Then, as I was driving to work, I called the hubs (yikes) and had to break the news to him. I didn’t tell him that my inner blonde was at fault, because, quite frankly, he wouldn’t find the humor in it. I think he might have been the teeniest bit annoyed.

Then, I get to Wal-Mart and search the shelves of the cheapest pants I can find – not a single pair of 4T to be found. Now, when I was looking for 3T in the late summer this would have been the perfect situation, now it just plain sucked. Hey, did I mention that I was about 15 minutes late for work at this point? No? Well I was, so then I frantically starting searching through all the racks for the allusive 4T’s – I found some, finally. What I found, however, were mesh pants and very cheap. The hubs I like cheap, but come on – it’s going to be 9 flippin degrees today – these things are as thin as paper! Well guess what – I didn’t get to be picky today. I bought four pairs of pants, a package of underwear and a package of socks (sometimes accidents result in floor puddles, which get the feet wet too).

I carted the whole lot back to daycare. I gave my little man a kiss goodbye and apologized for blanky’s absence for the second time, then headed off to work. I got there about 40 minutes late. My boss’s vacation started today, thank goodness, but I suspect (as with most things) she would have taken it well – hey, she finds my inner blonde funny!

Oh, I hate when I do stuff like that!! And WalMart never cooperates with my disasters either! Glad he was okay without blanky (so far), and that your boss understands - or at least sees the humor!

My hubby is the same way as yours. And my answer is always the same - you try and remember everything for a change. ;o)

I hate days like that! I woke up this morning at 7:45 a.m. I was supposed to be at work at 8 a.m. It was a struggle, but I made it by 8:15. I didn't have to take Jake to daycare though, so that helped!

I take it your daycare does not have any changes of extra clothes? I also keep a spare pair of clothes in my daughter's diaper bag - no need to buy a special set for daycare accidents.
