This and That

Hornet Indifference
I work in an old building, that hasn't really had many updates. I was in the mail/copy room yesterday when a hornet started hovering. Ummmmmm - what? That's right. A hornet. A conversation ensued over this little hornet, while I was on the edge of the room, with my body almost not in the room.Woman 1 "Oh yeah. It's normal. We have them all the time. You should see the amount I get in my office in the summer."
Me "Ummmm, no. I don't think I will be anywhere near your office in the summer!"
Woman 2 "What's there to be afraid of? Look at the size of it compared to the size of us."
Me "I'm not really concerned with the size of its little hornet body. I am concerned about the size of the pain its bite will cause."
Woman 1 "It won't bother you if you don't bother it."
Me "I'm pretty sure it can smell my fear and will attack based on that alone."

This conversation went on and on and ended with them making fun of a woman who immediately left a meeting because a hornet entered the room.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that there are a lot of people out there that are indiffernt to hornets or any type of insect, flying or otherwise, that can hurt you. Indifference to this, people, is just not normal. I'm am telling you this right now...if there are hornets in my office this summer, I will not be able to work in it. I can barely get anything done when there is a spider in sight.
Hands-On Approach
Most days, when I pick Timmy up from daycare, I get a note telling me about his day. The notes update me on his progress. I have never been given a note that says anything bad or that he has done something wrong, so I chalk this up to "he's a good boy." Yesterday the note said, "Timmy uses a hands-on approach when someone is in his way." While this is not a good thing, I giggled at her diplomatic choice of words. I understand she was trying to be nice, but if her's being a bully and pushing other kids around, just tell me. Why be politcally correct about it? Is there a toddlers' union out there that is fighting for their right to not be called a bully???

No Daddy! That's Mommy's Bag!
We are still struggling with Timmy wanting Daddy to do anything for him - from bathing, to puting him down for the night, to carrying him to the car. i don't understand it, but it's happening and has been going on for quite some time. I think, actually, that it has gotten worse in the month that I have been back at work.

While this is not a laughing mater at all, Timmy has some zingers that blow me away. This morning, as I was leaving for work, Todd was there to say goodbye to us and helping us out the door. Todd picked up my bags to take them to car, and Timmy said in a passionate way, "No Daddy! That's Mommy's bag!" I nearly fell over!

Eat More Kale
On my way to our second office this morning, on I91, a crunchy woman in a beat up volvo with a VT license plate passed me. (In saying all of that, I mean no offense to crunchy people everywhere, or to the state of VT, or to Volvos - as a matter of fact, I happen to like and appreciate all 3). She had a bumper sticker on the back of her beater that said "Eat More Kale." Why, oh why is this a necessary bumper sticker? How many do you suppose were made?Further more how many people actually thought hey, this is a cool sticker, I should buy it?

Though I wouldn't put a bumper sticker on my car, I do love to eat me some kale. yup.

OK - You are perfectly normal. No one should be able to function with a hornet in proximity. Spiders, bad enough. Hornets are spiders with a thorny protusion and wings to carry them straight to you. No thanks.

"Hands-on approach." That's funny. I wouldn't even be able to have a serious conversation about that one. I mean, when you grow up and get a job, isn't that a bonus? He'll be like, "No I tried that as a kid. It didn't work out." LOL

I, too, have a kid who prefers me. Until bedtime since I'm the one who puts her to bed at night. Then she clings to Daddy. Til midnight if I'd let her.

And on the kale note... A more important question is this. Who sees that sticker and says, "You know what? I think I WILL go eat some kale."

I've often wondered about people's choice in bumper stickers. (That sounds totally grammatically wrong, but whatever.)
Thanks for the "Are you gay?" quiz on your sidebar. I'm am happy to say I am not. ;)

OH you know I probably shouldn't tell you this but a hornet will sting you for no reason, and repeatedly. Their stingers don't fall out like a bee or a wasp.

I know this because I was stung sitting on a chair and did nothing to provoke it. As a result, I had a lump the size of a cup B boob on the top of my hand.

hornets -- bad

hands on approach -- laughable

bag -- poor kid.. poor mama

kale -- I hated kale when I was a kid.. it's probably something I would eat raw now (like cabbage) if I still didn't have the nasty cooked stuff burned into my memory of childhood...LOL

God bless,
