Working Mother

Yesterday, I was the typical working mother or at least I think I was pretty typical of working mothers everywhere yesterday. I forgot to take chicken out the freezer for dinner. As soon as I got to work, I called Todd, “take chicken out of the freezer and marinate it on your lunch break.” Yeah, can you guess what happened? That’s right, the chicken never came out of the freezer. So, like any good mother would, I stopped and grabbed a Hawaiian pizza, french fries and onion rings from a local pizza place. Is it bad that Timmy ate only French fries for dinner? Once they are thrown into the dinner mix, he doesn’t want anything to do with the other choices. Nice, huh?

I was running around work like a maniac trying to get all my duties done. I can honestly say it was my first busy day at work thus far. All that running around meant I no time to read blogs or post my own. Bummer.

I managed to do the laundry, but it didn’t get put away. I count folding it as a step in the right direction. I also managed to do the dishes and bathe my child. All of this, and we still had time to play outside after dinner and talk a walk. All in all, I think it was a pleasant day.

I spoke with a friend earlier in the week who asked me how I was adjusting to my return to work. She knew I was having a difficult time coming to grips with the idea of returning and leaving Timmy in a day care center. I can honestly say now, that it was a very good decision. I am completely at peace with it and am happy to be working again. Timmy has settled nicely into daycare, and is actually enjoying it. We took him to a party this weekend, where the kids were eating lunch at a kiddie table. Timmy sat right down and ate – not only that, but he didn’t get up until he was completely finished. He actually sat there about 10 minutes longer than the other kids. I owe this small miracle to day care. A month ago, he wouldn’t have sat there for more than a minute. It was a beautiful thing. He is learning good manners, learning to wait his turn and learning to share. This is a good thing, but I am also so very grateful for the 2 years I was able to be home with him.

You did laundry and spent time with the family instead of blogging?? That's just nuts!

I'm so glad that you feel good about your decision. There's nothing worse than having to leave your baby and feeling guilty about it everyday.

And any day that everyone's clean, fed and has clean clothes counts as a success. It doesn't matter if they have to pick those clothes out of a basket.

I don't work outside the home and I still forget to thaw out stuff for dinner.
